Loss of Innocents - an Original Sonnet Poem for Newtown, Connecticut
Loss of Innocents
This is a very somber evening. Another great and senseless loss has occurred this day in the USA. I am saddened and sickened and want these horrific events to end. This tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut has left a lump in my heart.

Loss of Innocents
A Sonnet for Newtown, Connecticut
Loss of innocents, Lord how can we bear
Torn from nurtured hallowed halls of learning
Wrenched hearts are in agony everywhere
Calling to our own with desperate yearning
There are no words to take away the pain
Of parents who have not their child to hug
Can we counsel such lost minds to refrain?
From striking with obscure intent so smug
Our communities rally near and far
To comfort the loss of each gentle life
Look up now to see the new fledgling stars
Whose light will illuminate through our strife
This loss of innocents; too soon; too soon
Has arced through our hearts like a harpoon
